Werris Creek woman to stand trial for murder

A WERRIS Creek woman accused of stabbing a Tamworth woman to death last year has been committed for trial charged with her murder.

Sharon Lee McDonald faced a two-day committal hearing in Tamworth Local Court last week charged with the alleged murder of a 23-year-old woman in the Taminda industrial area in December.

The 43-year-old sat motionless in the dock as prosecution and defence solicitors cross-examined 13 witnesses last Wednesday and Thursday.

The victim, Venessa Renea Kelly, was found bleeding heavily in McIntosh St shortly after midnight on December 18 with multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and back.

She was treated at the scene by ambulance officers before being rushed to Tamworth Base Hospital in a critical condition where she later died.

McDonald was committed for trial in the Supreme Court at a date and venue to be fixed. Bail was not applied for.
