Nationals name their candidate

NURSE Leslie Williams will contest the October 18 state by-election triggered by Rob Oakeshott’s decision to run for federal politics.

Mrs Williams gained pre-selection as the National party candidate from five others at a meeting on Saturday.

The 47 year old Lake Cathie resident was successful over former Port Macquarie-Hastings councillor Robert Nardella, former businessman Gary Boyd, journalist Kerri Griffiths and property developer Gary Jones.

Mrs Williams who was first pre-selected in April 2006, said she had now been the voice of the Nationals locally for more than two years.

She said the by-election was a great oportunity for the people to send a strong message to the government that they were fed up with under funding.

She listed health as the biggest issue in our area.

The only other candidate for Port Macquarie at this stage is independent James Langley.
