The Tamworth martial arts star won the NSW Boxing League welterweight title in Sawtell with a points decision over four rounds.

“It’s my first boxing title,” Burrage said this week.

“I’ve had a few fights but that was my first for about 12 months.”

Burrage had to fight out of his division and stepped up from his 63.5kg division to the 67kg welterweight division with aplomb.

He is hoping for another boxing bout soon but admits to concentrating on his return to Thailand for that Kings Cup and a kickboxing

extravaganza.

He also thanked sponsors such as Cargill and local chiropractor Jim Wilson for their support.

“They’ve been helping me out with all the travelling I’ve had to do,” he said.

“I also travel over to Dubbo to see my coach (John Hallford) and spar with him.”

Changing from boxing to kick-boxing and vice versa is not an easy assimilation, Burrage said.

“It’s tough,” he said.

“The stance is different.

“You have to stand wider in kickboxing while boxing is more upright with more body and head movement.”
