THE Annual General Meeting of the Camden Haven PAH&I Society to elect a new committee for 2008/2009 will take place on Sunday August 10 at the Kendall Showground.
If you have some new ideas on how your community showground could be run, here is your chance!
Nominations from members need to be received fourteen days before the meeting and the paperwork can be obtained from the Kendall CTC in the School of Arts building, Comboyne Street. All membership at $15 is now due and payable to the show society.
There are a dedicated band of members who serve this community well with their constant answer to the call any time there is work to be done, either on working bees or manning the canteen, one of the main sources of income.
Ron Porter, the showground Ringmaster, has been holding the office of President for the last few years. Last year the show society was fortunate to gain the service of Allan Phelps for Treasurer, a man able to do this job to perfection. However, Allan and Ron have managed all year without a Show Secretary and that must be rectified this year. Senior Steward, Pam McLeod, has done her usual superlative job with show schedules and pavilion needs, ably assisted by Dianne Essan.
If you are associated with the show society you will be aware there are almost 40 stewards handling their different categories and each of the stewards generally has an able body of assistants.
The AGM determines not only who will lead the Camden Haven PAH&I Society for the next twelve months, it also decides on future gate increases, price of membership, roles of Patrons, future Life Memberships or awards for service, all matters of interest to those who care about their showground.
As the Kendall showground is the only ground furnishing facilities suitable for football; pony club, dressage and horse jumping events; school cross country running; car rallies; cattle, fowls and alpaca shows; archery shows, caravan rallies; monthly markets etc., this is an invaluable part of the community and needs the care and attention of as many members of the public as possible.
Soon attention will be needed for the expansion of the canteen area. There is an ongoing water use problem getting priority and the electrical wiring throughout the showground is nearing it’s time for replacing. If you are a whiz at writing applications for funding, here is your chance to strut your stuff! Come and join the team running your showground. For further information ring Allan Phelps on 6559 4899 or Pam McLeod on 6559 4313.’
